Quiet Conversations:

It?fs always awkward, you know – the morning after you?fve spent the night in another?fs arms. But we didn?ft just hug each other. No, it wasn?ft a mere wrapping of limbs around the other to protect against the chill in the room at the time. It had been more than that – so much more.

I?fm not sure who started it. I?fm not sure of whose hand had crept down whose spine or whose lips had begun to trail tender kisses along the other?fs skin.

I remember hushed whispers in the dark and fevered words that became unintelligible after some time.

I remember the sensation of naked flesh against naked flesh – the soft, wet sounds of hands feeling, stroking, touching.

I remember thinking I could never get enough – of how I had wanted to devour and to consume him.

Completely.

I remember soft cries of pain and then low moans of pleasure. I think we screamed as something so indescribable took control of our bodies – like being lifted high into the sky and being tossed rapidly back to earth. It was the sensation of limbs becoming fluid, liquid heat, completely powerless as we lay and reveled in each other?fs essence.

I remember feeling?c

Complete.

It had felt warm like the kiss of a late morning sun upon one?fs skin. I never wanted to let go of that warmth and so I had clung to it almost desperately. I?fd like to believe that he had felt the same. Yes, I?fd still like to believe that he does feel the same.

?gHikaru?
You have a phone call?c?h

?gWho is it??h

?gTouya Akira. That wonderful friend of yours?c?h

The phone is literally snatched out of her hand as she watches her son in bemusement. He waves his hand impatiently. He clearly wants to be alone. Sighing softly, Mother walks back into the kitchen, wondering how her baby boy had grown up to be this way. Of course, she still blames it all on that game called Go, but she?fd never let anyone know.

?gHe?chello, Touya.?h His voice sounds breathless and it?fs not from the mini-race down the stairs.

?gShindo.?h

It?fs a simple greeting – an understanding between them. And yet over the invisible lines of communication that seem to bring them closer together despite the relative distance, their heartbeats race in unison.

?gTouya?cI?fve?cI?fve been thinking?c?h He wants to tell the other how he feels - how much the night before had meant to him. He wants to explain the tension that seems to coil within the pit of his stomach at the very thought of him. He wants to make the other see the way his presence makes him react. He wonders if the other can sense how terrified and yet happy he is. He wonders if he can say the right words to convey his emotions properly.

?gShindo?cI?cI?fm sorry.?h

His heart skips a beat and he forgets how to breathe. There is a small but growing sheet of ice within his heart as his hands seem to grip the phone even tighter against his ear.

?gLast night?clast night was a mistake. It?fs all my fault?cI started it?cI?fm?cI?fm sorry, Shindo.?h

No, he thinks as he slides to the floor. No, it?fs not your fault. It was never your fault. I shouldn?ft have asked you to move close to me for body heat. It?fs unfortunate we were trapped in there but please don?ft blame yourself because?cbecause?c

I have no regrets.

?gShindo? Are you still there??h

?gYes?c?h Is that his voice? It sounds so far away and empty – almost devoid of emotion. The sheet of ice has become a solid chunk and he feels his control slipping away.

?gDo you forgive me?cShindo??h

?gI want?c?h

He licks his lips and tastes something salty. He didn?ft know he could cry again and so easily too. He had cried for his ethereal friend once but never since then.

?gShindo?cwhat do you want??h

?gMy?cmy parents won?ft be home this evening,?h he says quietly. ?gWe can play a game if you?fd like.?h

He holds his breath and awaits the answer. If he is rejected, he doesn?ft know what he will do.

?gI?fd like that.?h

The ice seems to thaw a little and he wipes his face quickly and buries his face within his raised knees as he notices Mother coming out of the kitchen. But he is smiling, a slow motion of lips that betray the uncertainty in his heart. Is he doing the right thing, he wonders?

?gI?fll see you tonight, Touya,?h he says with his heart in his throat and his chest constricting painfully.

?gI?fll see you too, Shindo.?h

___

It?fs always awkward to walk into the house of the one you had just spent the night with. Exchanging shy smiles and polite conversation is not something that comes so easily. I remember feeling as if my vocabulary had been considerably reduced as I had sat before him.

We had planned on playing a game of Go – but things had gone wrong - oh so wonderfully wrong.

I had been winning. I was sure I was winning and then I had tried to make a joke by saying he was probably losing because he was hungry.

/Only for you?c/ he had said and I think I must have gone into a state-of-shock as I heard that. I remember feeling incredibly hot and that a familiar rush of heat had rushed down between my legs. It?fs too embarrassing to reminiscence even now but then there had been no time for proper decorum.

I remember trying to laugh it off as a joke and the way his eyes had seemed to flash an even brighter emerald shade of green. Panic and yet giddy anticipation had raced down my spine and it sent my nerves tingling with a sensation I can not describe.

I think the events that followed soon afterward became a blur for me.

The goban was tossed to the side and we had dove for each other.

There was hunger, heat and need. There were the desperate sounds of fumbling hands, sloppy kisses, torn shirts and hastily tugged pants. There was the grateful and delightful sensation of his skin against mine as the memory of the night before came flooding back to me in turbulent waves.

I remember how hard we had both been and how it had been nearly painful to touch each other down there. I think we had sobbed in relief as he finally found his way into me and as he stretched and filled me. I cried or screamed or both, I can?ft really tell you.

But we kept climbing?chigher, higher and higher still. We went so high we felt we could touch the clouds. I knew I never wanted to come down from there. But we had to fall eventually and what a fall it was. Coming down from the heavens and back to earth left us feeling wet and sticky but I don?ft think we cared very much.

All that mattered was that we were together and it had felt as if nothing could ever tear us apart.

Nothing.

They lie in a tangle of boneless limbs, sweat-drenched and flushed skins, shallow breathing and glazed gazes. The tension is gone from the air and in its wake a smooth and soothing aura like the feel of a silk kimono lingers in the small room. Long shadows like black fingers brush upon their pale, young flesh like a lover?fs caress as they fall into a lull doze. Or are they?

They speak?csoftly to each other and in their current lethargic afterglow, it sounds almost surreal.

?gShindo?c?h

?gTouya?c?h

?gWhat?cwhat does this mean? This ?ething?f?cbetween us??h

Their voices become almost fearful whispers as if hoping that the moment does not slip away from them as quickly as snow melts on a warm winter day.

?gThis thing?cbetween us?c?h

?gI?fm?calmost scared.?h

?gI know.?h

?gI don?ft want to feel scared, Shindo?c?h

?gBut it felt good?cand right?c?h

?gBut it?fs not right?cwe both know that?cit?fs?cpeople will?c?h

?gTalk. So what??h

?gI don?ft?c?h

He turns away and worries his lower lip. He lifts his gaze to the flimsy curtains that float above them in the fading sunset. A ray of smattering speckles of dust dances before him and he lifts a hand to ?ecatch?f them. He tries to think of how to say this without giving his partner cause for concern. There is no doubt that this ?ething?f they have done – twice – is going to create a lot of problems.

But the right words won?ft come out?cat least not from him.

?gTouya?c?h

It?fs a soft but pleading word. It?fs an unspoken understanding that things might not be so simple between them but at least they could try.

He allows his hand to drop back to his side. He isn?ft able to catch the speckles of dust after all for that would be impossible. Slowly, he turns his head to stare into the questioning gaze of his long-time rival, friend and now lover. And as his lips curve into a reassuring smile of unspoken communication, he reaches for Shindo?fs trembling hand to clasp it tightly within his.

?gShindo,?h he murmurs reverently against the full lips before him. ?gThis ?ething?f between us will be our little secret. Just a little something for only us to know?c?h

Although he is torn between wanting to shout out his happiness to the world and to respect his lover?fs wishes, Shindo can only give a slow nod of acceptance as he melts into the welcome embrace of the one he loves.

For lovers love even though the words are never said.

Someone?fs hand slips between one?fs thighs and feels. Someone gives a low moan of pleasure as lethargy gives way to piercing arousal. Before long, twin sighs of heightened emotions float away and mingle with the sweet sounds of fading evening.

Tomorrow can take care of itself, for only the now, matters.
